it was amazing

The beginning of this story reminded me of Hansel and Gretel. In this case, it is Alice and Alexander that are sent into the woods. This is because their stepfather didn't want them around and their mother didn't want to upset her husband. The children manage to get back because they retrace their footprints.
They are sent to the woods a second time and their mother gives them walnuts to eat and left them a trail of breadcrumbs back to the house. Unfortunately, the birds eat the breadcrumbs and the children are truly lost. This is where the story diverges from the Hansel and Gretel story and through a series of events, Alice and Alexander are separated. They both live happy lives in very different circumstances but they still miss each other very much. But eventually, they are reunited and everyone, including the wicked stepfather, has a happy ending.
I enjoyed this story very much and would recommend it to parents.
