It's been a while since I've read other Michael Chabon works, but what strikes me about this book is his ability to create a world that works. I think that's one of the things I appreciated about Summerland as well, but I don't remember it as clearly. The setting, or world, that he creates is so central to the story, yet so seamlessly integrated with the real world that readers can buy into the new construct very easily.
I'd probably give it an extra star if the ending hadn't seemed so rushed.
