it was ok

I actually didn't read this - listened to it as an audio book read by Tim Robbins. Really not sure about this book - it's an American classic, but I just don't get why this *is* such a beloved classic. It meanders a bit more than I like and I just didn't embrace the characters the way I expected to. Daisy struck me as vapid and Nick struck me as vacillating. I didn't like Tom, per se, but the guy sorta had some balls - which makes him a little more likeable. Gatsby himself is tragic, but not in a particularly interesting way. I am sure this is just me - thousands of high school english teachers can't be wrong - but what is it I'm not getting?
