Russo is a master of the story about a seemingly boring subject- a small town and the humdrum life of a lifetime resident. While the author/narrator's life is anything but exciting, Russo crafts a thoroughly absorbing novel. They are the type of characters you would like to know, and in fact, probably feel like you do. A wonderful novel- if you liked Empire Falls, you will like this one.
