really liked it
bookshelves: religion-and-atheism, dragons

It's hard to tell how to rank The Bible. I like the King James Version because as much of it is beautifully written as is hopelessly awkward. I like Lamentations, the Psalms, Song of Solomon, lots of the individual stories in the Old Testament for their drama, and chunks of the New Testament. Revelation is nuts, though, as is Leviticus. And my enjoyment of the Bible does actually depend on who I'm talking to and what they're doing with it.

I grew up on this book (raised religious, yes indeed), so it has shaped a lot of my perceptions. Biblical (as in King James Version) constructions sound normal to my ears; BIblical logic too often makes sense to me. But the uses to which this book is put are frequently disturbing and horrifying.

I gave it four stars for my personal interactions with it and couldn't possible give it a fifth star because of its worldwide influence (and the boring parts--blah begat blah begat blah, and on and on).
