really liked it
bookshelves: fiction

Reading books of short stories is usually an up and down experience. I think it is impossible to write great story every time. This book is no exception. I had thought of Borges as being connected to the magical realists of the Latin American writers, but he owes more to the detective stories of Poe and Hammet. I am impressed by his erudition of history and myth. The end notes explain Borges references to South American history and geography.
