Amongst Our Weapons (Rivers of London, #9)

Amongst Our Weapons is the latest Rivers of London novel, but makes a reasonable stab at being a jumping-on point for new readers. That said, any reader who picks this up as their first introduction would be well advised to read the preceding books.
Alongside the usual police-procedural-meets-magic, this book manages to bring Lesley May back into the action and further develop the nature of Newtonian magic. It also manages to introduce an inclusive cast without feeling laboured.
Both a quick read and something I wish would last longer. The action-packed climax is also more coherent than previous instalments, which makes for a more satisfying conclusion.
Bonus points for the Waterstones exclusive edition, which includes a Nightingale story set in the past that really earns its place, rather than feeling like a contractual commitment.
