I have to admire the author for her writing here: Lily Bard is a reticent soul, closed off from the world around her to the extent she can (and rightly so, I gather, given the backstory). Harris writes in a prose which is likewise reticent; the book fights the reader. It's not an easy nor indulgent pleasure, but it is admirable. That written, no, I don't feel really close to Lily Bard, although I did enjoy dropping into her world.
