I'm not going to write much here at all because I've blogged all the way through the book from the introduction(http://coffeeandginger.blogspot.com/2...), and through each of the 16 chapters till the end (http://coffeeandginger.blogspot.com/2...).

It took me 2 months to read, which is quite long, but I had to read it online and I really don't enjoy reading off the screen. However, I enjoyed the book very much - it's very easy to read, not at all in the usual quite long-winded style of 100 years ago. And it's quite extraordinary - a man born into slavery who went on to do remarkable things. Worth reading.
