This was my first Dean Koontz novel and I was not disappointed. Odd Thomas was a fun quirky book even at it's darkest moments. The lead character is a small town fry cook with the extraordinary ability to communicate with the dead. He has an entertaining group of friends who keep the story light and focus him when he is confused. It was easy to fall in love with this eccentric collection of characters. While the plot was not breathtaking, it did hold up and the moments of intense action were well-written. I have to admit the end caught me off guard (which is not always the case--I am pretty perceptive) and that increased the thrill of the read. I have already picked up the second of the series and I can't wait to see where life leads Odd.
