I wanted to love this to get into a great fantasy series, but I doubt I’ll read beyond book 1. I don’t like any of the characters enough to want to continue. Sure, there’s intrigue & plot twists, but there is also too much cruelty & violence for my tastes (yet I LOVED every one of George RR Martin’s Song of Ice & Fire books, aka Game of Thrones). I also love all of Sarah Maas’s fantasy novels, too. But both characters & world building fell flat for me with this one.
