really liked it
bookshelves: historical-fantasy, fantasy, favourites, humour, mythology

The Thief, being on the slowish side of taking-its-sweet-time-about-it, didn't quite make it to my list of favourite books. The Queen of Attolia on the other hand (not that there is another hand... *smacks self heavily over head with an unabridged hardcover Les Misérables in futile reparation for that awful joke*), moves onto that shelf quite easily.

While it can't be called a fast-paced book either, Turner's easy-flowing and clever writing draw you effortlessly into a plot that's like a twisted staircase.
The characters are brilliant. Incredibly well-developed and three-dimensional. Eugenides is like a sulky child who's lovable as heck, Eddis is fantastic, and Attolia is a lovely, stone-cold ruthless piece of work. I loved them, along with all the more minor characters.
The politics and war are described with meticulous detail, and I appreciate that.
The world-building is stunning.

Honestly, this book leaves little to be desired.
