I remember finishing this back when it was first published and this was the very end of FitzChivalry's story--there wasn't so much as a hint that Robin Hobb would ever continue his adventures, let alone be launching a second trilogy. The ending will always be a bittersweet one, and there are times I really hope for certain things to pan out differently, despite having read this multiple times and knowing exactly how it'll pan out.

This is quite a journey. From the crazy and still-shocking cliffhanger of the first book, it feels like one thing after another with Fitz ranging across huge swathes of the countryside. I love how much more the Six Duchies gets fleshed out in this book as the others are much more concentrated on just Buck and the keep itself.
