This book is an impressive reference about Value Stream Management and why it is so crucial in any DevOps Transformation. The author put a lot of effort into putting all this information in one single book. I did particularly like that the Lean side was not forgotten. Because Value stream management (and mapping) come from Lean and it is kind of a prerequisite to DevOps.

So, the book start gets a nice overview of Lean Principles where the concepts are well explained. After that, the VSM Methodology is defined with the following phases: Launching, Mapping, Identifying, Measuring, and Improving. If you did previously read Value Stream Mapping by Karen Martin and Mike Osterling, you will be in a familiar territory.

And what about VSM tools and methodologies? There is a good part in the book talking about VSM tools vendors and scaling methodologies such as DA-Flex and SAFe.

In the last part we learn how to apply VSM with DevOps transformation and Strategy. The interviews with industry Practice Leaders of VSM was a great part for me to read.

Clearly a must read for anybody who are involved around DevOps Culture, Tools and Process.
