really liked it

The author creates a vivid depiction of life in Vicksburg, Mississippi. I really enjoyed the historical details and felt inspired to read more Civil War fiction. While it has been many years for me, I imagine middle grade students will relate to 13-year-old Anna and be intrigued by the difficult circumstances of her life. I think this book is a great tool for sparking discussions with students about war, sacrifice, and values-based decision making. Looking forward to sharing Finding My Place with a 12-year-old in my life.
