Casting Off starts to ramp up the storyline of the Wool series. This book makes very effective use of strategically placed cliffhangers and flashback. Now that the reader is pretty familiar with the Silo world, its rules, appearance, and secrets, this book starts to weave in groups of characters. It is in these characters that the reader begins to find a strong personal stake in the story and the outcome for these people. This book is a pleasure to read, light and fast with a lot of satisfying content. The reader begins this book wanting to know more and finishes it dying to know more immediately.
