** spoiler alert **
You almost never get a well researched biography that gives you a personal view into the author as well as the subject which I really, really enjoyed. It really shows how much research and love went into the book (I mean she has a tattoo of the subject, that’s dedication!). It was a very enjoyable read despite some of the tragedy in Millicent’s (she of many names) life. Mallory is a hugely talented author and I really enjoyed the asides.
Now for the “complaint”, come on there’s always a complaint. Mallory had a tendency to really abuse footnotes which annoyed me at first but I came to enjoy about midway through the book so I guess it’s not a complaint at all.
