The prose has so much purpose, that even the briefest description of a character aids the stories' end in an overflow of deeply penetrating, universal emotion. Each story resonates with it's own sorrowful truth, pinned together as a whole book by such simple similarities! That Lahiri accomplishes this so effortlessly within the bounds of so few pages, in each story, is testament to her talent... and it was a debut! Ah, what a way to start! I must admit to not typically having the heart for short stories; my previous experiments as such have been with the likes of Dave Eggers, and I can't deny that as soon as I've moved on, the stories left me; but I've been reading a story out of this book every few days for about a week and a half now, and the heart in each still sounds within this happy reader!

Favourite, methinks? I loved the story 'Sexy.'
