it was amazing

When I was reading "Ghostwritten", I kept running into people saying "oh oh, do Cloud Atlas, you're gonna love Cloud Atlas!". Frankly, 100 pages in, I was asking myself "why am I gonna love this so much?". Then I met Somni-451 and quickly fell in love; then came the next section, then the revists of the previous...
I guess to be completely honest, I have to say it's a bit slow at first, and my 5 rating derives more from intense love of the more sci-fi elements I loved so much, as they were so well done. The Luisa Rey sections were probably the weakest, if only it as they were such "ratchetting up the pressure" genre thriller. But if that's as bad as it gets, it's still amazing! Mitchell is masterful and you're only going to keep hearing more about him as time goes on.
I also love the fusion of sci-fi and "more literary" genres. I believe Houllebecq is doing similar blending.
