it was ok

Some great ideas & fantastic twisting of history. For me, the biggest drawback to this novel was the lack of action. The back jacket synopsis played up "Buntline Special" as a steampunk/urban fantasy/Western; I thought I was getting something along the lines of Cherie Priest's "Boneshaker." Not so. "Buntline" has plenty of steampunk gadgetry, sharpshooting, & whoring, but it's bogged down with too much yapping, rehashing of what few events have happened, & sociopolitical debate over Native American/US relations. I'm more than halfway through, so I'll probably finish it, but reading this novel is more like Doc Holliday pulling teeth than the shootout at OK Corral.
