really liked it

One of the most tattered, dogeared books on my shelf is Anne Bishop's omnibus edition of "The Black Jewels Trilogy" (though the book's size could be a contributing factor). Even though I've seen reviews chastising it for the sexuality or the unrealistic "prettiness" of the characters, I formed an attachment to them on the first read, and I've gone back to reread it several times since.
Even though you can make the generality that books often get better as the author becomes "seasoned", I haven't found that to be the case with Bishop. Further books in the series seem shallow and just don't have the emotional grab for me, but I still love the character interplay and intrigue from this beginning trilogy.
