I was quite excited to hear that they were releasing the book from angels take manhattan as an e-book. River Song in a pulp detective novel? Yes please! Unfortunately this isn't the book in the episode. It's not a very good paradoy of the detective pulp genre (to the point where I did start to wonder if Justin Richards had actually ever read any Hammett or Chandler). It's not a very good plot, movie stars not remembering things and being created in a vat. Seemed more fitting for today's celebrity culture than really a pulp setting. The angels didn't really seem to work like angels were supposed to, ageing people rather than sending them through time. And worst of all River's narration really just didn't sound anything like River!

It was only a two pound ebook so I can't complain. It had some funny lines and kept me entertained when I ran out of proper books to read. But I really am a bit disappointed as this could have been done SO much better.
