really liked it

First, let me say this: This Book is Full of Spiders is not as good as John Dies at the End. It's not as funny, the characters spend far too long separated, so they don't get to play off of each other, and there is nothing as weird in this book at the "Shit Narnia" stuff in JDatE.

However, it's still a damn good book. David Wong manages to write what is essentially a straight horror novel in which the main characters are funny, having already survived much weirder stuff. It's kind of post-modern, where the protagonists have the same expectations as the reader: they know the "rules" of a horror story, so there's not much that truly surprises them.

You can read this even if you haven't read John Dies at the End. There's not much that is spoiled if you start with this one (except for one, really obvious thing), but it works well as a sequel as well.
