really liked it

Interesting tale about a mysterious Jewish book that had, against all odds, survived several big historical events. Rather like the idea of Accordion Crimes, you learn much of the story through the people who possessed the book at pivotal points in history. The larger, unifying story is a modern-day book conservationist who solves many of the mysteries and saves the book again. I really enjoyed this after picking it up on a whim. Good, strong plot and while the characters were a bit one-dimensional, they were entertaining and stayed true throughout the story. And the writing is good -- good enough to draw you into all the different stories as they move back and forth. A little confusing at times because of all the characters & trips back and forth in history. Strong female characters throughout and that was really enjoyable. I'm looking forward to reading more by Brooks.
