Bushman is a good writer. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I believe he was probably a little light, a little too easy on JS on the subject of polygamy. But there is a lot of stuff in this bio. that is going to be new and somewhat surprising, if not shocking, to the average, faithful Latter-day Saint. For example, Bushman points out that while Missouri Governor, Lilburn Boggs said the Mormons must be "exterminated" from the state, it was Sidney Rigdon who used the term first, and he used it in reference to the Missourians--in his July 4th, 1847 "Salt Speech," which btw, is readily available on the Web.
