“Red Rain” by R.L. Stine, published by Touchstone Books.

Category – Horror

Just in time for Halloween, a book for those of you who are looking for something to spice up the holiday.

R.L. Stine is best known for his scary children’s books, “Goosebumps”. He has now taken his “Goosebumps” to a higher level, the adult horror story.

Lea Sutter writes a travel adventure blog and is visiting an island, Cape Le Chat Noir, off the South Carolina coast. The island has a history of Black Magic, in fact, she attends the Revenir, a ritual where people are brought back to life.

Hurricane Ernesto slams into Cape Le Chat Noir and levels the island. Lea is appalled at the damage and, death and finds two twin brothers that have lost everything including their parents. Against her husbands wishes she brings the twins home to live with their son and daughter.

It doesn’t take long for things to start going bad as things go missing and Lea’s husband, Mark, is a prime suspect in two brutal murders. Mark begins to suspect the twins but finds that Lea is not only attached to the twins but makes excuses for their behavior. The entire town becomes involved when the twins seem to have a hold on the children and are using them for their own ends.

I don’t know if you will have to leave the lights on all night but I certainly would make sure all windows and doors are locked.
