it was amazing
bookshelves: classics, arthur-and-his-knights
Read in January, 2013

I listened to this on audio and that is definitely the way to go. This is a story meant to be listened to, not read silently to yourself. I was never a fan of the other epic poems I've read (Beowulf: A New Verse Translation, The Song of Roland) and I think that's because I was experiencing them in the wrong medium. There's a rhythm and song in the words that I think you can only get when someone else tells the story to you.

Also, Simon Armitage's translation is brilliant.

Alyssa Where did you get it on audio, out of curiosity?

Bonnie Library - I downloaded the mp3 from the library's online catalogue, but I think my library also had it available on CD.
