it was amazing
bookshelves: china-related

I just read this stunning autobiography about Chen Jiang Hong growing up during the Cultural Revolution in China. His drawings are very evocative, and made me feel like I was back in China again, and the story, though simply told in a picture book or graphic novel/panel format, was very informative and emotionally moving. The book depicts the life of an average child in China, and also the horrors of that era.

I have read quite a few books on this subject- the Cultural Revolution, but this simple story (77p.) told so much more in much fewer words. Unfortunately the version I read does not contain the 12-page biographical and historical section at the back of the book. I would have very much liked to read that , too.

I highly recommend this book if you are interested in China!
