really liked it

I'll have to read Norwich's full length books, but this one served well as an outline of Byzantium's existence. The most educational thing that I gained from this history, is an understanding of just how self destructive quests for political power can be. Byzantium, with a few interludes, seems to be a repeated tale of good leaders, assasinated by rivals, those rivals upon taking power realise they've destroyed the power of that leadership post by making it susceptible to additional assasination attempts... and is soon replaced, and replaced, until the leader/assassin is so bad the people revolt, and appoint a good leader... who then gets assasinated.
