The Wrath of Angels (Charlie Parker, #11)
I have read every single Charlie Parker thriller, and this is the first I have struggled to get through. Angel and Louis are caricatures, and there is a veritable goon squad of minor characters whose quirks and foibles are dwelt upon at length, all in order to make up for a near total lack of menace or horror. The tone is Carl Hiaasen with a dash of Stephen King, but nowhere near as entertaining as either. Connolly attempts to extend the Parker mythology with the Army of Night and the God of Wasps, and he also throws in the Great North Woods for good measure. If I had to describe this in a single word: lackluster.
