it was amazing

Not that I would know whether or not Fountain got into the head of an American soldier, but I really loved the understated-ness of this book, and how much psychological damage was hinted at without being directly approached. The analogy between war and football wasn't overblown or heavyhanded, just brief and well-stated. The randomness and injustices of wartime were well-conveyed peripherally (I imagine).

I tore through this book in a day and a half; I'm happy to have read it and happy to be done with it. It's rough to think about how many people are in this situation, from this country and from others.
