This is my first Patricia Cornwell book. My mom has been raving about her for years. My entire family loves serial killer and crime novels. I did enjoy this book even though I came into the series at I think the 19th book. The pace is good and keeps you engaged. Love the forensic details about autopsy and crime scenes. The ending even took my by surprise as I am usually pretty good at figuring out who the murderer is. What I can take a pass on is the obvious fact that the main character is a facsimile of the author (who has a pretty high opinion of herself). Also the usual investigator berated by authority scenario. Really haven't we done it enough - Morse, Inspector Lynley, to name a few. Still waiting for an author to treat their crime hero from an entirely different perspective. That being said, I am on to read more in the series.
