The Power of Our Words: Teacher Language That Helps Children Learn
Jan 01, 2009
Written by one of the authors associated with the Responsive Classroom theory, the book is a powerful reminder that how you phrase what you say and the tone that you use matter greatly when it comes to how your students receive your words. It seems like the most obvious thing in the world, but it actually takes a great deal of practice to always have a higher purpose in mind than just getting your thoughts out into the open: how will this affect the student? Will it encourage them? Discourage them? Will they work harder or change their behavior because they now understand it is the right thing to do? Or is it just to please me? Or are they afraid of me? Overall, a very interesting read.
