This was certainly not the book I expected it to be and what that was, I don't remember now. But I wanted something light to read while I housesat on Christmas Eve and decided on this.

Wow. Kate DiCamillo tells a marvelous story. Excellent language throughout that, even as an adult, I was hooked right along with her images and prose. I think, for me, the wonder of it was it brought back some of the wonder of reading I had when I was younger. Gone with the analytical (though on some level it was probably there) and all else, and left behind was the simple fascination of a wondertale where mice become knights, soup heals, and while everyone might not live happily ever after exactly, they're happy.
