really liked it

Like Seven Deaths, this book rattles along at pace with a motley crew of characters aboard a possibly cursed boat. Setting-wise, Stuart Turton makes good use of this as a locked room - just as he did with the house in Seven Deaths. There’s a large cast, who are kept mostly distinct in the reader’s mind, and there’s a crumb-trail of clues to keep you guessing.

I really enjoyed it… except for the last 40 pages where the neat resolution seemed to fall apart. I don’t read a lot of golden age mysteries, so I’m sure it harks back to some of the more improbable Sherlock Holmes deductions, but without that background it seemed a bit… random?

Highly entertaining, but I had hoped for a more satisfactory denouement.
