Payne's sharp wit and unique voice shine in "Revelation." The story unfolds after a minister is spoken to by God, then experiences spiritual emergency. His quest to find balance after having his own beliefs challenged, then challenging those of his congregation when he confides in them, leads him on a mystical journey into other faiths, as well as his own. This is a wonderful, relatable tale of self-spirituality.

The writing is crisp and evocative. Payne captures the feel of quaint country church culture impeccably, particularly when something shakes it up. Characters are vivid, sensually alive. Her attention to detail brings readers into the setting, actively participating in this man's trek to inner divinity.
