I have to hand it to S.A. Bodeen that she knows how to write some gripping, suspenseful stuff. Beyond that, things are a little weak, but still it's admirable to have a talent for timing and slowly revealing layers of a story so that the reader can hardly resist blazing forward.

Weak stuff: I didn't really enjoy the main character. I think she did justice to the fact that she's a teen - not entirely mature, and in desperate situations we can feel or act selfishly, and I like that she went for that kind of realism as opposed to this martyr of a main character. But beyond that, there wasn't much to recommend her to me or make me interested in her.

Also the events of the story, while exciting, were a bit... meandering. Is that mean to call a book about raft survival meandering? It's not that SHE meandered... which she did. It's just things felt disconnected and a bit random. Maybe that was unavoidable, and she does have themes that recur throughout the chapters which I applaud. But the story just didn't feel tied together enough to really satisfy.
