Darren has grown up fascinated by spiders, while his friend, Steve, grew up loving comics on werewolf and vampires. On one particular day, they discover a movie show called “Cirque De Freak” and decides to go see it. But while they were there, Steve tried to leave but before he did, the ring master, Mr.Tall gave them each a ticket. After watching it, they were fascinated by the act of Mr. Crepsley, and his spider, Octa. When the show ended, Steve wanted to become a vampire and asked if he could be one, but the answer he got was a “no.” So Steve left and Darren decides to steal Octa, but due to his actions, his best friend was bitten and paralyzed when Octa was startled. Darren walks back to Mr.Crepsley and ask for an antidote, but what he got wasn’t a simple yes. He has to make a decision on whether to save his friend or become a half vampire himself.
My favorite part in the book of the book would be the part where he chooses to get the antidote to save his friend or to just leave him. This is because, in this moment, everything just comes into this one moment: emotions, thoughts, actions and what it tells about him. You get to understand more about the character and this moment, is like a turning point in the book, a part where the adventure begins.
A theme of this book would be that your actions would reflect what your consequences would be. Like how Darren takes the spider and his consequence for that is his friend, Steve, being bitten.
