really liked it

At times the book almost feels like a farce: his descriptions of “the whites,” and Americans specifically, is spot on—to the point of it feeling like it was written today. Examples: the British don’t make many promises but keep them, while the Americans will often often make promises and fail to fulfill them. The whites listen to their preachers to know how to act, while Black Hawk’s people listen to their inner selves to know right from wrong. A fascinating account.
