This is a fascinating look at the dual careers of LAPD chief William Parker and LA crime boss Mickey Cohen, and their roles in changing Los Angeles into the city it is today. Their decades of battle - from Prohibition to the Watts Riots - created the environment that led to all the great film noir classics and brilliant novels set in Los Angeles. Without Parker and Cohen and their underlings, there would have never been Chinatown, LA Confidential or The Big Sleep.
