One of Clements's best, made all the more sweet for me because a kid recommended it to me, and because making comic books is the central plot device. There's even a nod to Scott McCloud's "Understanding Comics." Add to this Brian Selznick illustrating in the styles of the two protagonists, a great sixth grade boy-girl friendship, and a male math teacher who faints at the sight of blood, and you have got one heck of a book. Clements unashamedly makes use of his standard formula: a social issue (commercialism and education) addressed by savvy kids and often clueless adults, and it works. Highly recommended.
