The Hemingway Stories

There are some bona fide 5-star masterpieces in this collection (Indian Camp, The Undefeated, and The Snows of Kilamanjaro, which now ranks as one of my favorite short stories of all-time), but there are also numerous entries that seem like academic exercises where Hemingway was simply practicing his signature style. And his very well-regarded The Killers, despite some cracker-jack noir dialogue in the beginning, was a big disappointment and puzzler.
All in all, though, this is a fine collection from one of America’s most esteemed and famous authors. You can’t go wrong here if you are looking to sample Hemingway at his best (and sometimes worst).
