Truth in the form of fiction
This book brought back memories. The Bootheel of Missouri can only be distinguished from riverside territory in Mississippi by lat/long coordinates. I grew up in the segregated south with patents who never used the ugly words I heard when I enrolled i the first desegregated class in my high school. Our town had burnings and murders and it all confused me. I was brought up to believe that real people never said or did the things my friends told me about. I can easily believe now that this story cod be 100% true, but at the time, I couldn't believe any of it.
This story is a great story. In another era it would be told around campfires for generations.
