Well, I finished this (view spoiler) on Thanksgiving, so that was kind of a bummer.

This was a compelling read, and heartbreaking in its circumstance, if not entirely in its writing style. I think the distance that Kathy displays as the narrator works for the book, however, and I think it's tremendously difficult to write first person POV and reveal things about the character that she doesn't know herself--or won't admit to feeling. So I admire and like this one, and was even moved by what happens...but it wasn't quite the wrenching emotional experience I'd expected, which surprises me.

In any case, the narrator of the audiobook, Rosalyn Landor, did a lovely job.

Donna I read this right after reading Unwind too. I really liked it, I can't wait to hear your thoughts about it.

Wendy Darling I've been meaning to read this book for years, Donna. Oddly enough, it's actually a combination of The Lost Girl, Unwind, and a little bit of What's Left of Me that made me pick this up this week. I guess I'm in the mood for tragedy and tears, hah.

I saw the film when it came out, though, and I thought it was amazing.

Tanja (Tanychy) St. Delphi The book is better than a movie! :) At least to me! :)

Wendy Darling They always are, aren't they? :)

Kyle Love the book and the movie! Can't wait for your review. : )

Wendy Darling Hah, well...I am incredibly behind on reviews that I'm required to do, so we'll see if one happens for this book! But I'm thrilled to see all your stars, Kyle. :)

Tammy Ooh, I'm so thrilled you're reading this. It's one of my favourite reads - I really hope you enjoy this one. I have yet to watch the movie, but have heard it's quite a great adaptation. Will be eagerly awaiting your thoughts on this!

Thomas Looking forward to your thoughts on this one, Wendy!

True that ;)

Kathryn I loved this book! I hope you do, too!

Wendy Darling I'm so happy to see so many of my friends loved this! I am quite sure I will, too. I'm about 100 pages in and the writing is amazing. :)

C Hellisen I always get told I will love his work, and then I picked up...one of them... and I was bored senseless. Apparently I chose a dud. It might have been the frame of mind I was in. I'll have to give him another go one day.

Wendy Darling Ah, I think his work is rather varied, Cat. I've picked up a couple of books before and haven't been grabbed by them, but I'm very much enjoying this one.

Lilyan Oh, this book! Depresssioooonnnn. And anger.

Nenia *The Flagrant Liberal* Campbell I loved this so much. Definitely one of Ishiguro's best!

I didn't love this book. I appreciated the ace writing but felt so emotionally detached from it. I'm assuming this was the author's intention.

Kate How's Never Let Me Go going? I started to read it but only got 40 pages in.. I thought it was quite slow. I'm going to attempt to re-read it because I absolutely loved the movie. Sorry to jump into the conversation! :P

I'd be curious to see how you like the book when you're finished with it, Kate.

Tammy I'm dying to know if you're still enjoying this one. I actually feel like doing a re-read at some point because I want to watch the movie soon (I know, I'm sure I must be one of the last remaining few who has yet to see the movie adaptation of it).

Alright then! I'll keep you posted! Thank you for your curiosity. :)

Wendy Darling Wow, you guys--I am still very much enjoying this book. You naysayers will just have to wait until I'm finished before I can post any violent disagreements or changes of heart, hah.

Sasha one my faves! :) <3

Michelle, the Bookshelf Stalker Queen of the Undead This book will be either a love or hate. I loved it. It will be interesting to see how you end up. I still owe you one book in the mail (it is sitting at work just waiting for me to send it back to you). I'm such a negligent book buddy. I hope you are doing great and forgive me for not getting your book back to you sooner. Missed chatting with you. I'm just playing major catch up on here, my shelves are a mess, and I'm just starting to review again.

Wendy Darling I really like the book so far, Sasha!

Michelle!!! I'm so happy to hear from you. Don't worry about the book, I think I'm actually going to have you send it to someone else. I miss you, too--I am here off and on these days, but I hope you're doing well. Are you ever going to come down to LA?

Heather Wood Oh I look forward to hearing what you think, the film wasn't so good (I fell asleep) :P x

Wendy Darling Well, I don't know if you'd like the book then, Heather, because I loved the film.

Julia OMG THIS BOOK. This book. After I finished it I felt so empty inside. I remember that I cried in the movie, but the ending to the book and the emotions it portrays are so different. I was totally mind boggled. I didn't even know what to rate it so I just went with a generic 3 star. I have never felt more numb after finishing a book than this.

I will come see you soon. With everything that happened to me recently, I ended up sending an employee in my place to LA. However, I will be down in LA during the first week of November. Let me know who you want me to send the book to! It is literally sitting in a brown envelope waiting for the next address.

Laura S I absolutely loved this book - few stories have turned me so inside out. I'm surprised to find so many didn't like it. I listened to the audiobook, and perhaps that created a different sense of pace.
