I'd only ever read a Fleming novels years ago--Casino Royale. I thought I would try another one.
Now, having finished it, I remember why I only read the one book years ago. One diminsional plots and two-dimensional characters left me wishing there was more to the book. Yes, there is interesting flavor from the old Cold-War days, but not much else. Bond is far more vulnerable and human in the book, which should be good. But since he is a killer who is also a womanizer, he needs icon status to overcome these traits and become someone we can like. Being more human, he is just another agent who happens to be fast with a gun.
