Djewesbury got halfway through this when i was writing my PhD and found it difficult to finish - one day i'll read it all. brilliantly senseless violence and boundless expanses of inhospitable desert are what i remember about it.

Mark I'm about two thirds through this now. I remember you citing it around the time of your London Bridge project (and the bit I'm at right now, they are decamped in Tucson). I think you just about have it right with "brilliantly senseless violence and boundless expanses of inhospitable desert", it grinds away at that and it is hard to see how it will end other than some final cataclysm. Great stuff, though.
