I read this story for three reasons: First, it was written by Frank Deford, who I believe is one of America's foremost and most thoughtful sports writers, secondly because it was about baseball, and thirdly because it was a free download on Nook. It contained two main themes, one about baseball and one about the personal lives of its participants. The baseball issues were handled easily and entertainingly by author Deford. The personal issues of rape, kidnapping of a Cuban child, lies to law enforcement people and the "entitled" nature of professional athletes is subject to criticism, depending on whether you are perfect or not. In any case, a thought-provoking sports novel.
