Rating: 4.5 out of 5
Much Ado About Magic is the fifth book in the 'Enchanted, Inc' series but is my first introduction to both the series and the author, Shanna Swendson. Thankfully, the book stands alone very well, hopefully without giving away too much of a spoiler for the earlier books. And the verdict? I loved it!!
As I devoured the story, I couldn't help thinking about its origins and whether it started out life as a kind of Harry Potter fan fiction with an older audience in mind; with Enchanted, Inc, being the equivalent to the Ministry of Magic. Oh, and one of the main characters in Merlin, which may help you draw your own conclusions. But then merge all of this magical mystery with a great big dollop of chick-lit and you end up with Much Ado About Magic. Crazy, huh? But it works.
Regardless, of how it all began, this book is a fun read that left me feeling invigorated and satisfied at the end. I now have the first four books in the series on my Amazon wishlist but the pricing - set by the original publisher, over which the author has no control - is a little steep, so will take me a while to collect. Make no mistake though, I will own and read them all and I am delighted to see there is a sixth book to come.
If you love stories with magic and you enjoy reading chick-lit, then Much Ado About Magic could be just what you are looking for.
