really liked it

Johnny Merriman is a very determined and brave 13 year old. A year after his twin sister, Alyssa, disappeared, Johnny is still searching for her and refuses to believe that she is dead. In that year, his father has left Johnny and Katherine, his mother, alone, they have lost their house and are living in a rental owned by a man who used to be a friend and always had a thing for Katherine, and Katherine has given in to despair, drugs and alcohol. Johnny's life is a nightmare, but still he goes out and spies on known pedofiles to try to find out where Alyssa is. His one friend is Jack, who has a deformed arm, which is a reason for bullying from other boys. Although Johnny doesn't accept the fact, Detective Clyde Hunt does his best to keep an eye out for Johnny and to protect him. His search brings him into contact with a murder, another kidnapped child, a giant of a man with the mind of a child, and many activities that a 13 year child should never have to take part in. This book was written with great sensitivity, an exciting mystery, but a whole lot more than that. I will be looking for other books by this author, John Hart.
