This book is the one that seemed to make all the difference for my son in boosting his confidence as a reader. I didn't realize he'd been comparing his reading (in 3rd grade) to my own until he read this graphic novel and came to me all excited because he'd finished it--and pretty fast. I had no idea that he'd been comparing how fast I read to his own reading until then and I explained about how people read differently--that fast isn't better than slow--in fact, that he had an advantage over me b/c he retains what he reads whereas I zip through and don't remember.

Great series for reluctant readers--much higher vocab than you'd guess and the pictures help the reader along by providing context. I can't keep this series on my K-5 library shelves.
